Great Britain

The official name of the state is United Kingdon of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

This country is located between the Atlantic Ocean and the North Sea. It´s separated from the continent – from France by the English Channel.

The United Kingdom consist of 4 countries: England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. London, the capital, is the centre of government for the whole of Britain. Laws are made by parliament. Parliament has two houses: the House of Commons and the House of Lords, which has little power. Members of the House of Commons are called MPs. MPs are elected by the people from particular area.
Parliamentary elections are held every 5 years or less.
The leader of the majority party in Parliament becomes Prime Minister. Prime Minister and the most important ministers make up the Cabinet. There are three main policical parties: the Labour Party (left wing), the Conservative Party (right wing) and the Social Democrat Libear Alliance (centre).

Currency is one pound, there is 100 pí in a pound. The official language is English.

Thy royal family lives in the Buckingham palace in London. The Queen has four children: Charles, Anne, Andrew and Edward. Prince Charles is the oldest so he will be the next king after Elizabeth.

The Great Britain connected with the Commonwealth countries and it belongs to the G-7 countries.
Britain is member of all important international organisations – United Nations, European Community or NATO.

Britain has resources of coal, oil, gas and lead too. The main Britain´s trading partners are Germany, the USA, France and the Netherlands.
