USA - United States of America

The first discoverer of America was Christopher Columbus. But the North American continent was discovered by the Vikings, Chinese. The original inhabitants were natives – Indians. The name America became know thanks Amerigo Vespucci.

At the beginning of the 17th century, England started colonising North America. The North American continent was colonised by Spanish and French too. In the North America continent, there were formed 13 colonies.

War for Independence was in 1775. On July the 4th, 1776, the Declaration of Independence was adopted. The first president of USA was George Washinghton.

USA is situated among the Artic, the Atlantic and the Pacific Ocean. USA is part of the North American continent. USA consists of 3 separate regions – continental part, Alaska, The Hawaiian Islands. The USA borders with Canada(Great lakes) and Mexico (Rio Grande).

In the USA, there are the Appalachian Highlands, the Cordillera Mountains. The highest peak of the USA is Mt. McKinley in Alaska. There are the Mississippi Lowland, Great Plains.

The USA has many rivers. The biggest rivers are the Mississippi and the Missouri, The Hudson, The colorado, The Rio Grande.
In the USA, there are the Great Lakes: the Lake Superior, the Lake Michigan, the Lake Huron, the Lake Erie and the Lake Ontario. The Niagara River is part of the Saint Lawrence River connects The Lake Erie and the Lake Ontario by Niagara Falls.

Climate is varied. Some parts of the USA are in the temperate zone, the southern part lies in the subtropical zone and Florida has tropical climate. In Alaska is artic climate.

In the USA, there are grown soya and maize. Soya and maize are exported.

The USA is rich in minerals. The USA has one of the largest reserves of black coal (The Appalachian Mountains) and brown coal (in the Rockies). In the USA, there are mined uranium, iron ore, zinc. US reserves of natural gas and oil are being quickly used up.

The USA is industrial country. The USA has first place in the world in production of cars, computers.

Among the most important cities are Dallas, New York, Washinghton, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia.

The offical language of the USA is English. USA is a federation which consists of 50 states. The capital of the USA is Washington. The head of state is George Bush. The president is elected for a four-year term. The president´s residence is The White House in Washinghton.
